Gundam Alternity

One of my stories that I started working on way before I left. I had thought I had abandoned it in favor of another series I was going to work on, but things worked out to where I've decided to work on this one right now. This is definitely not for those who have little knowledge of Gundam, but take a look anyway and see what you find.

Centuries into the future, mankind has traveled to the stars, living in giant orbital cylinders called Space Colonies. However the ruling Earth Federation government oppressed the colonies, which gave rise to the fascist Principality of Zeon. Zeon launched a war of independence against the Federation, a war that resulted in 2.8 billion deaths by the end of its first month. During this time, a young colonist named Amuro Ray stumbles upon the Federation’s secret weapon, a white prototype Mobile Suit. And the Gundam legacy began…

Prologue
Neo Century 1079

With high expectations, human beings left earth to begin a new life in the Space Colonies. The year was Neo Century 1. The colonies allowed for huge technological progression and technology improved throughout the Earthsphere and the technology of war improving the fastest of all. And so the Mobile Suit was invented and unleashed on the universe. Throughout the following years of the NC calendar there were many wars, each stopped or influenced by the legendary mobile suits called Gundam. Eventually the technology evolved to a point were man could peel back the fabric of space/time and peer into other times and worlds.

-Gundam-

The woman shifted in her command chair, a look of annoyance crossing her beautiful features.
“We’ve lost it then, have we?” she seemingly asked no one. A shimmering light behind the woman coalesced into the transparent form of another woman, glowing neon blue.
“Once Eternity activated its stealth systems, they couldn’t find it even if it was dancing a samba right in front of them.” The woman swiveled her chair around to face the glowing hologram.
“It’s not like you to be so… theatrical SARA,” commented the woman with wry amusement.
“Just as you programmed me Aidan,” responded the hologram, “There is one bit of good news though.”
“Give in oh Oracle, do tell.”
“Not all the stealth systems in the universe can hide the rip in space/time created by an Alternity Engine.”
Aidan cursed richly, “By all the stars in… where? When?”
“You won’t like it.”
“At this point there will very likely be little about this affair that I will like.”
“December 31st Universal Century 0079, the vicinity of the Zeon asteroid fortress A Boa Qu.” Aidan cursed again.
“Language Aidan,” said the hologram SARA with a frown, “The Council would have a fit if they heard you speaking like that.”
“At this point, the council, if I have the old expression right, can collectively go to hell!” The woman, Aidan, gave an angry toss of her long mane of golden blond hair. She lapsed in to silence for several seconds then stood up from her chair.
“That’s it then, there’s nothing else for it. Get ready to jump SARA.”
“Is that wise mistress? We have not received authorization…”
“I don’t give a damn about the bloody Council right now SARA! This is the job they selected me for, and I’m damn well going to do it before their grand weapon pulls all reality apart! No more argument, bring the Alternity Engine online, engage cloaking, start programming the Drive computer, and prep my Mobile Suit!”
“I’ve already begun,” replied SARA, a slight grin on her face. Aidan sat down in her chair again, feeling the hull of her ship begin to vibrate. Running a hand down one sleeve of her blue, white and gold jumpsuit Aidan thought to herself, “I did always want to meet Amuro Ray… Now it seems I’ll finally get the chance.”
“SARA! Engage the drive now!” There was a rumble, a flash of light and Aidan and SARA vanished.

Not Particularly Inspiring...

2. The Gundam Phoenix (2001)
XXXG-01WF-2 Gundam Phoenix
Height: 16.7 meters
Armor: Gundanium alloy
PW: Twin Buster Rifle x1, mounted on right shoulder
SW: 75mm machine cannon x2, mounted on shoulders; beam saber x2, mounted in shoulders
AW:  N/A
SA:  ZERO system
Pilot(s):  Zack/Sesina Monroe
Notes: After Zack Monroe lost the Gundam White Fang, he found his way to the L4 colonies where he met up with Quatre. Quatre, racked with grief over the death of his father, was building a new Gundam using his family’s resources and offered those resources to Zack. Working from the same set of blueprints they had discovered in the computers, Quatre created the Wing ZERO and Zack created its brother unit, the Phoenix. Being made form the same plans as Wing ZERO, Phoenix looks almost exactly the same with a few differences. Phoenix has no transformation mode and has a red, gold and white paint scheme. Its buster rifle is as powerful as the ZERO’s and it is also equipped with the mysterious ZERO system in the cockpit. Zack never could quite get the hang of the ZERO system so it was mostly left turned off.
The Phoenix is, again, not a particularly inspired design, basically being a re-coloring and modification of the Wing ZERO design. Clearly, I still had a long way to go with Gundam design.

Playwrights Need Not Apply

The Rocket

            Titles.

A black screen. Gradually we begin to hear faraway, echoing voices of people speaking over radios, a lot of techno jibber-jabber. Gradually one man’s voice FADES IN to prominence.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER
This is Apollo-Saturn launch control at T-10:00 and holding. This is the latest in a series of holds that we’ve experienced in this countdown. Currently we are attempting to solve some communications difficulties between the blockhouse and Apollo 1.

Title reading THE ROCKET comes on screen.

FADE IN

INT. COMPLEX 34 BLOCKHOUSE--NIGHT
The launch control center is crowded with men in slacks, white shirts and black ties. Here and there are some air force officers and a few men in suits. Some are also dressed in coveralls (white). Two of the men in suits are DEKE SLAYTON and Werner von Braun. CUT TO a shot of a man’s arm reaching forward towards a coffee pot and pouring some of the over-brewed brew into a white mug. We FOLLOW the man as he returns to his console and takes a long pull of the coffee.

ENGINEER A
Jeez Mike how many cups is that? Five?

Engineer B
Seven. Cripes, when is this damn thing going to be over? I already had to call the wife and tell her to put the roast in the fridge.

Cut to shot of von Braun’s back as he looks through one of the periscopes in the room. Deke Slayton comes up to him and taps him on the shoulder.

Deke Slayton
You know, you don’t have to stay here Doc. The Saturn’s your baby and that’s not what’s giving us headaches.

Von Braun
Perhaps Deke, perhaps. But since everyone else is in for the long haul, I’ll stay as well.

CUT to shot of engineers working at consoles. One of them is trying to understand something that the astronauts aboard Apollo 1 are saying.

CAPCOM
Jim, can you understand a thing they’re saying?

JIM
Not a one. Holy smokes this is a mess.

CAPCOM
Don’t let the bosses here that. (straightens as another transmission comes in, he sighs) Say again Apollo? Did not copy your last.

CUT to:

EXT. COMPLEX 34--NIGHT
We pan up the massive red launch gantries encasing Apollo 1’s mighty Saturn IB rocket. CUT to:

INT. CLEAN ROOM--NIGHT
Techs suited in white overall clean garments surround the Apollo 1 capsule, cocooned in its clean room at the top of the launch gantry. The harsh lights reflect off the moonship’s metallic hull, the Stars and Stripes and the block letters UNITED STATES gleam. WE cut to another shot of the room and the techs working but this time we can clearly see one of the capsule windows. We can see the astronauts inside. WE ZOOM forward just a little bit towards the window. (Window 1, left-hand side) CUT to:

INT. COMMAND MODULE--NIGHT
A large panel fitted with switches, gauges, guidance instruments and the digital computer display takes up the interior of the Apollo 1. The three astronauts, Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee are packed in shoulder to shoulder, wearing their brilliantly white pressure suits. Close Up of Grissom.

CAPCOM (O.S.)
Did not copy your last Apollo.

Grissom
Guys, how are we going to get to the moon if we can’t talk between three buildings?

Some garbled transmissions. The astronauts are clearly frustrated.

White
Rog, what time is it?

Chaffee
(looks at his watch) Nearly 6:30.

White
Five and a half hours…dammit to hell.

CapCOM
Can you guys talk to each other up there in the Command Module?

White rolls his eyes.

White
Son of a bitch. (dully)

Grissom
I said, how are we going to get to the moon if we can’t talk between two or three buildings!

CUT to:

INT. COMPLEX 34 BLOCKHOUSE--NIGHT
SHOT of Deke and von Braun.

Slayton
This has been going on for more than five hours and we’re still holding. I’m starting to hear rumbles of cancelling the test. If we have to reset and restart…

Von Braun
I know. It will push the schedule back again. I know that the Director wants us to start flying soon but I am becoming a little concerned with the pace the program is moving at.

Slayton
If we can just get Apollo 1 off the ground and flying, maybe they’ll ease up a bit.

CUT to engineers at consoles. CLOSE up of some gauges. They spike dramatically.

Engineer C
‘Nother electrical surge.

He writes it down. Nothing to worry about apparently. CUT to:

INT. COMMAND MODULE--NIGHT
The astronauts are working. Close up of the small space between Grissom and White. A thin, almost innocent-looking tendril of gray smoke curls up from between the couches. CUT to CLOSE up of Ed White from the right side. He is punching in commands to the CMC (command module computer). The tendril of smoke rises up and curls against the control panels.

Chaffee
Hey…

White looks over at him and Chaffee points past him. White turns to look and sees that Grissom as levered himself onto his right side, facing White. He’s looking down at something. CLOSE up of Grissom’s face. He stares down, horrified.

Grissom
Oh my god.

CUT to:

INT. COMPLEX 34 BLOCKHOUSE--NIGHT
The people in the Blockhouse are tired and hungry but they soldier on, professionally putting aside their own needs and desires to complete the test. Everything seems normal until--

Grissom (OS)
Fire!

Everyone stops what they’re doing and gaze up at the television monitors showing the interior of the CM. The crew is moving frantically. REACTION SHOT of von Braun and Slayton.

Chaffee (OS)
We’ve got a fire in the cockpit!

CLOSE up of the PAO officer who looks stunned.

Public Affairs Officer
18:31, fire in the spacecraft

Slayton bolts, heading for the enormous steel door at the back of the blockhouse. He rushes out of it, White’s words echoing through the room as he runs:

White
Fire in the spacecraft!

CUT to:

EXT. COMPLEX 34--NIGHT
Slayton rushes out of the blockhouse and gazes up in horror at the non-visible capsule at the top of the gantry. CUT to:

INT. COMMAND MODULE--NIGHT
The cabin is engulfed in flame and smoke, mostly smoke. White lays back with his arms over his head, frantically trying to get the hatch open. Grissom is trying to help him but a blast of flame sends him reeling back. Chaffee is staring in wide, bulging-eyed, slack-jawed horror at what is happening.

Chaffee
We’ve got a bad fire in here! We’re burning up! (face contorts in agony) GET US OUTTA HERE!!

He cuts off in a scream of pain as flames engulf the frame. DISSOLVE to shots of the empty, charred CM interior. A few lights wink feebly in the gloom and smoky murk.

Von Braun (VO)
When we finally opened the hatch, the sight that greeted us was… monstrous. We could not find them initially through the dense smoke. Their suits had been partly melted, the fire had burned so hot. Gus and Ed’s suits had actually fused together. It was a small comfort to learn, later, that they had actually died of asphyxia due to the toxic smoke, not the heat. They estimated that they were gone no more than seventeen seconds after Roger’s last transmission. It took the engineers five minutes to open the hatch. Five minutes…

Design Factory

Many of us have many different hobbies. Unfortunately drawing is not one mine. So whenever I come up with a custom design for a Gundam, I can't really do much more than write down the tech specs. *sigh*
Anywho, I'm posting this as a sort of placeholder until I get some time to work on that moview review I mentioned in the least post.

1.     The Gundam White Fang (2001)

XXXG-01WF Gundam White Fang
Height: 16.6 meters
Armor: Gundanium alloy
PW: Dober gun x1, mounted on right shoulder; Shenlong shield x1, mounted on left arm
SW: 70mm Vulcan gun x2, mounted on head; 75mm gattling cannon x2, mounted in chest; Wolf Fang x1, mounted on left forearm; beam saber x2, mounted under shield; micro-missile pods x2, mounted on legs
AW: N/A
SA: Hyper Jammer x2, mounted on back
Pilot(s):  Zack/Sesina Monroe
Notes: The White Fang, being the first of my Gundam designs isn’t particularly inspired. It’s basically a mish-mash of design elements from the other five After Colony Gundams. It even includes the Dober Gun weapon from the OZ-00MS Tallgeese as its weapon.  Around the mid-point of Gundam Wing, OZ destroys the White Fang, usually piloted by Zack Monroe,, largely due to the fact that it’s not equipped for combat in space. This forces Zack to use a new Gundam design for the rest of the conflict. However, the White Fang is notable for being the first Gundam mobile doll. When the White Fang rebel organization captures the lunar base, they build three advanced mobile dolls based on the designs of the mobile suits Vayeate and Mercurius and the Gundam White Fang, becoming the rebels’ “standard-bearer” suit. Zack, understandably annoyed by this and by the fact that the mobile doll nearly kills his girlfriend Yuko Mackenzie, easily defeats the doppelganger of his former Gundam.
